Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Limited (WHPL) welcomed 20 new professionals during an induction programme held on 22 July 2026, marking the third phase of recruitment for the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project.
The new team members, comprising engineers, section engineers, a geologist, a surveyor, a System Administrator, and a procurement officer, were recruited through Druk Green Power Corporation Limited’s campus recruitment programme. With this intake, WHPL’s workforce has grown from 43 to 63 employees, reaching approximately 36% of the Company’s planned organizational strength.
The induction began with prayers and the offering of Tashi Khadars at Palden Tashi Chholing Shedra in Phuentsholing, symbolizing blessings and best wishes as the new recruits embarked on their professional journey with WHPL. The programme continued with a welcome cake cutting ceremony and orientation sessions led by the Company’s General Managers and senior officers, covering the organizational structure, project implementation, workplace policies, and the Company’s strong commitment to Occupational Health and Safety.
Addressing the new recruits, the Chief Executive Officer welcomed them to the Wangchhu family and highlighted the remarkable progress achieved over the past six and half months. He noted the successful transition from planning to construction, advancement of enabling works, mobilization of contractors and consultants, establishment of project offices, progress in detailed engineering, and the award of the Design Consultancy Services and Diversion Tunnel construction contracts, marking the start of the project’s first major civil works package.
The CEO also emphasized the strategic importance of the Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project as the first project being implemented under the partnership between Druk Green Power Corporation Limited, representing the Royal Government of Bhutan, and Adani Power Limited. As a 51:49 joint venture, the project lays the foundation for the broader collaboration to develop 5,000 MW of hydropower while supporting Bhutan’s national goal of achieving 25,000 MW of installed hydropower capacity by 2040.
Encouraging the new professionals to become “Leaders of Self,” the CEO called on them to embrace continuous learning, accountability, and excellence. He reinforced the importance of the “One Team, One Vision” culture, stressing that projects of this scale succeed through collaboration, shared purpose, and mutual respect. He also underscored the Company’s commitment to building a “Zero Harm Workplace” through strong safety practices, the 5S philosophy, integrity, quality, and professionalism.
The programme concluded with a warm welcome to the newest members of Wangchhu family as they begin their journey of contributing to one of Bhutan’s most significant hydropower projects. Together, they will help advance the nation’s energy security and support sustainable economic growth for generations to come.
