A Strategic Partnership for a Sustainable Green Energy Future and Shared Prosperity
Project Overview
WHPL
The Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Limited (WHPL) is a strategic run-of-the-river hydroelectric project developed as a joint venture between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of India to harness the power of the Wangchhu River. With a planned capacity of 570 MW, the project is designed to bolster regional energy security and contribute significantly to Bhutan’s renewable energy exports through high-head power generation. It involves the construction of major infrastructure, including a concrete gravity dam and Surface powerhouse, all while adhering to strict environmental standards to preserve the Himalayan ecosystem. By integrating advanced engineering with sustainable resource management, WHPL serves as a key pillar in the socio-economic development of the region and the ongoing cooperation in the clean energy sector between the two nations.
