Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Limited (WHPL) today inaugurated a 128 foot Bailey Bridge across the Jigmechhu, restoring a vital connection to Bayul Kunzang village after the previous bridge was washed away during the October 2025 floods.

Constructed at a cost of approximately Nu. 8.0 million, the bridge provides a critical link to the Project’s powerhouse site and Adit 3 during construction, while also restoring access for the local community.

The temporary bridge has a load capacity of 20 metric tonnes (MT), with an operational limit of 18 MT during the summer monsoon season to ensure safe operation.

The project also plans to construct a permanent 70 MT bridge across the Jigmechhu. The new bridge will provide reliable, all weather access to the powerhouse area and facilitate the transport of heavy construction equipment required for the successful implementation of the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project.

Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Limited extends its sincere appreciation to the project team, HiTech Company Pvt. Ltd., the contractor responsible for constructing the bridge, the local community, and all stakeholders whose support and cooperation made the successful completion of this important infrastructure possible.
