Our Responsibility
At Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Limited, we believe that true progress is measured by the well-being of the people we serve and the health of the ecosystems we inhabit. Our ESG framework is designed to exceed national standards, ensuring a sustainable legacy for Bhutan.
Biodiversity Protection: A strict Worker’s Code of Conduct is in place, prohibiting hunting, fishing, or poaching within the project’s 750-acre government land area.
Compensatory Afforestation: For every tree removed during construction, WHPL is funding a native-species replanting program managed by the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) to ensure a net-zero loss of forest cover.
Integrated Water Management: Our operations are guided by the Wangchhu Basin Management Plan, which uses real-time monitoring of 58 upstream glaciers to predict river inflows and manage water security for downstream ecosystems.
