About Smt. Meera Shankar

Meera Shankar is a seasoned diplomat with 38 years of distinguished service in the Indian Foreign Service. Her career includes key roles in the Prime Minister’s Office overseeing foreign policy and security, leadership of the Commercial Wing at the Indian Embassy in Washington, and stewardship of India’s cultural diplomacy as Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

She has extensive experience in South Asian affairs and has headed divisions managing relations with neighbouring countries and SAARC. She later oversaw India’s UN and international security agenda as Additional Secretary. Meera Shankar served as India’s Ambassador to Germany (2005–2009) and to the United States (2009–2011).
